Aluminum? No thanks.
My name is Dave Waugh. I’m a member of the
Beer Can Collectors of America (#29712), and the BCCA’s Pickwick and the
Rusty Bunch chapters. I began collecting in 1975. After a few years away in pursuit of baseball cards the beer can bug bit again in 1992 and hasn’t let go since. My collection is comprised primarily of New England cone tops, trays, Narragansett cans, and other odds and ends.
I’m a collector first so am just as eager to trade for items I need as to buy and sell. I began online
trading on AOL in 1995 and started a website for baseball cards and beer cans in 1997. That year
I also began trading on Ebay. In 1999 the Vintagecans.com domain was registered, and its first
iteration graced the Web later that year. This is its fifth design. Google Analytics traffic
reports for the last design show monthly page views at about 5,000, or 60,000 annually.
Besides online trading, I’ve been fortunate to combine my business as a designer
with my hobby: I was instrumental in the production of
United States
Beer Cans (Vols I and II) guides, the hobby’s definitive guides. I’ve also
been the art director of the BCCA’s bi-monthly magazine
Beer Cans &
Brewery Collectibles since 2001, and was the Pickwick Chapter
newsletter editor from 2001-2005. Online, I’ve been involved in legacy
versions of the BCCA and Pickwick websites and have designed sites for
several of the hobby’s top dealers. A visual redesign of the
Blue & Gray Show web site was recently completed.
In short, I’ve been around a while, am still deeply involved in a hobby I love,
and am always trying to add to my collection. It’s always fun talking about
cans so drop me a line and share your thoughts!
